DC Cycles Take On Gosport National BMX Weekend
The British Cycling National Series rolled into Gosport BMX Club on June 13th-14th June, bringing together almost 1,100 riders from across the country for two days of intense racing in soaring temperatures. The racing was fast, the crashes were plentiful, and the standard was as high as ever, but DC Cycles rose to the challenge with a weekend packed full of podiums, personal bests and breakthrough performances.
National Winner for Beni
One of the standout performances of the weekend came from Beni, whose hard work and commitment are clearly paying off. After securing an excellent 2nd place on Saturday, he went one better on Sunday, taking the National win and standing proudly on the top step of the podium.Watching Beni's progress over recent months has been hugely rewarding, and this result was thoroughly deserved.
Oscar Continues to Impress
Oscar rode brilliantly throughout the weekend in one of the biggest and most competitive categories of the event. Against a field of around 60 riders, he narrowly missed the finals on both days but still finished an impressive 11th overall. The speed was there all weekend, and his consistency continues to improve.
Double National Wins
The weekend also saw another fantastic performance from one of the team's senior riders, taking victory on both Saturday and Sunday to secure a clean sweep of National wins.
A special thank you was reserved for Mum, who spent over 12 hours a day at the track supporting from the sidelines, proving once again that BMX is very much a family sport.
Reuben Breaks Through in Superclass
Having used the Gosport Regional as preparation, Reuben stepped up to the highest level of British BMX racing in Superclass and delivered a breakthrough performance.
Strong gates and consistently fast laps saw him record moto scores of 4th, 4th and 3rd whilst battling some of the fastest riders in the country. Drawn on the outside in the final, Reuben showed maturity beyond his years, navigating through the chaos and finding a way onto the podium to claim his first-ever Superclass podium finish.
A huge achievement and undoubtedly the first of many.
Molly Doubles Up
Molly enjoyed a strong weekend across both Cruiser and 20-inch racing.
Saturday saw her qualify from the semi-final in style from gate 8 before taking 5th place in the Cruiser final. She narrowly missed progressing further on her 20-inch bike due to a countback decision.
On Sunday she improved even further, taking an excellent 3rd place in the Cruiser final and finishing 14th overall in the 20-inch category.
Andy's National Milestone
For Andy, the weekend was all about personal progress.
After successfully helping unload the van on Friday with minimal injuries, he knew things were heading in the right direction. The weekend delivered some of his fastest ever laps around a track he knows well.
Sunday brought a major milestone as Andy qualified for his first-ever National semi-final. Although he finished at the back of the B Final, simply lining up alongside that calibre of rider was an achievement in itself.
His main challenge now appears to be keeping hold of his camping chair from Luca.
Lexi Battles Through
Lexi showed plenty of determination throughout the weekend. Still managing an ongoing knee injury, she battled her way into the B Finals in a very competitive girls' category.
Perhaps most importantly, she left Gosport happy after discovering she had climbed further up the National rankings despite racing below full fitness.
Jose's Fighting Spirit
Jose enjoyed a fantastic Saturday, making the semi-finals before progressing to the B Final in another excellent showing.
Unfortunately, Sunday didn't go quite to plan, with a crash in her final moto resulting in a hand injury that prevented her from continuing.
We wish Jose a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her back on the gate soon.
Anita Delivers Consistency
Anita continued her excellent form throughout the weekend against a stacked field of 28 riders.
In Cruiser racing, she secured 4th place on both Saturday and Sunday, narrowly missing the podium in one of the most competitive women's categories at the event.
On her 20-inch BMX, she climbed onto the podium twice, taking silver medals on both days and continuing to prove herself among the country's best.
Team Riders On Fire
The rest of the team riders were on fire and raced their socks off, repping DC Cycles and their clubs, achieving personal bests, building confidence and most importantly HAVING FUN...
DC Cycles Keeping Riders Rolling
Away from the racing, the DC Cycles team worked tirelessly throughout the weekend preparing bikes, carrying out repairs and keeping riders on track.
The team tent was busy from start to finish, helping riders stay race-ready while also supplying plenty of rad BMX gear to riders and supporters throughout the weekend.
Looking Ahead
With National wins, podium finishes, personal bests, first-time finalists and breakthrough performances across the squad, Gosport proved to be another hugely successful weekend for DC Cycles.
Most importantly, the team showed the spirit, work ethic and support that makes BMX such a special sport.
